When Seas Became Deserts

Where ancient seas gave way to deserts, rare treasures and timeless stories emerge

Millions of years ago, in the area that is now the Timna Desert in Israel's Arava region, a vast and life-rich sea, part of the renowned Tethys Ocean, once thrived. Over time, this ancient sea retreated due to tectonic and climatic changes, leaving behind fascinating evidence of its rich past. The region's rock layers preserved fossils of ancient marine creatures, alongside deposits of minerals, precious and semi-precious stones, formed through unique geological processes. The green malachite, stunning turquoise, and natural copper are just some of the rare treasures extracted from Timna throughout history. This transformation from sea to desert imbues the area with charm, mystery, and uniqueness, reflecting the enduring power of nature and time.

The Story of Jewelry – More Than Decoration

For me, jewelry has always been more than a beautiful adornment for the body; it is a symbol of depth, meaning, and hidden magic. Through my research into the history of jewelry and gemstones over the years, I discovered that jewelry has served a wide range of purposes: mystical rituals, magical practices, and profound spiritual processes. Ancient kings and tribes believed in their power to bring fortune and influence destiny, while magicians used semi-precious stones for unique ceremonies.

For example, amethyst was used in ancient cultures as protection against poisons, while turquoise was believed to bring health and protection to its wearer. Green malachite symbolized fertility and transformation, and Egyptian kings adorned themselves with gold jewelry featuring scarabs as a symbol of eternal life.

Jewelry, above all, tells the stories of the people, cultures, and beliefs that gave it meaning – reflecting the connection between the body, the spirit, and the world around us.

~Our Story~

My name is Klara. I, along with my dear family, live in Kibbutz Elifaz, nestled in the Southern Arava desert in Israel. I am deeply in love with life in the desert – its mystery and the life it holds within. Exploring the desert with my family, we often find ancient shells and timeless fossils that tell us about the ancient ground we walk upon and the value and significance of these treasures. These findings are the source of my inspiration for my creations, blending the history of jewelry with the desert's mysteries and vitality.

The desert, for me, is a fascinating journey, and the beauty of this journey is what I wish to share with you through my jewelry. Everyone has their own unique journey, and I hope my creations will serve as milestones for you, wrapping you in love along the way!
